A kötetben a tibeti buddhizmus iránt élénken érdeklő hegymászó az 1933-1936 közötti, a Himalája déli előterében tett néprajzi és felfedezőútjairól számol be, a tibeti buddhizmus, kultúra, életmód számos részletével. A tibeti buddhizmus számos jeles tanítójával megismerkedő Marco Pallis ebben az időszakban ugyan délnyugat (Kasmír), illetve dékelet (Szikkim) felől is próbálkozott bejutni a tiltott országba, a szigorú értelemben vett Tibetbe csak később jutott el, ám beszámolója arról tanúskodik, hogy a tibeti buddhizmus kulturális hatása Tibeten kívül, a Himalája déli előterében is kétségtelen és hatalmas. A munka első kiadása 1939-ben jelent meg; példányunk az első New York-i átdolgozott kiadása. Oldalszámozáson belül három egész oldalas térképvázlattal. Aranyozott, illusztrált, enyhén foltos kiadói egészvászon kötésben, színes, illusztrált, kissé sérült eredeti védőborítóban. Jó példány.
