Veit Marchtaler (1564-1641) ulmi titkos tanácsos, aki 40 év alatt három császárt és Maria Christiernát szolgálta hűségesen. Húsz évnyi magyarországi tartózkodása alatt jelen volt 1593-ban Fülek ostrománál, az 1594-es sikeres hatvani ostromnál valamint 1595-ös havasalföldi hadjáratnál. Ez utóbbit követően keletkezett az egyetlen - Marchtaler életében - nyomtatásban megjelent munkája, mely Báthory Zsigmond dicsőségét örökíti meg.
(A könyv hazai árverésen tudomásom szerint 1938 óta nem fordult elő.)
