A Ratio Educationis volt az a kormányrendelet, amellyel legelőször rendezték államilag Magyarország közoktatását. A rendeletet szerzője Tresztyánszky Dániel és Urmányi József volt. 1777-ben Mária Terézia adta ki, ezzel állami felügyelet alá vonva az addig kizárólag egyházi ügyként kezelt közoktatást. A Mária Terézia féle rendelet 1806-ig volt érvényben, amikor is a második Ratio Educationist kibocsátották (ld. következő tétel).
